Theatre Arts Classes

IGCSE and IB Theatre Arts Higher and Standard Level

Acting for Stage and Screen  

This course is an introduction to acting technique. Acting fundamentals such as voice, body, and movement are introduced and developed. Students who are interested in Broadcast Journalism, Film, Television and Theatre Arts are encouraged to take this introductory semester class.  Students will explore the role of the actor as it relates to a variety of media.  Acting technique and terminology as well as real world scenarios will be studied, practiced and reinforced. 

 

Design and Technical Theatre

This high school credit course is an introduction to theatre through design and technical theatre.  In this semester class, student will explore the role of the designer for a variety of mediums for the stage (set, properties, costumes, lighting and sound).   Through practical and theoretical exercises, students will have the opportunity to develop and practice the skills necessary to design, build and run the technical aspects of a production.  Students in this course will be required to be part of the crew for WPS theatre productions.

 

Theatre Arts Production

This year long course involves the development of performance skills through working on devised and scripted scenes, some of which will be presented to an audience. Students will study drama from the point of view of the director, designer and performer as they investigate methods of turning a play script into a performance.  Students in this class will attend and perform, direct or create technical designs for the District 5 thespian competition (1st semester), as well as, audition for and perform in the W-Factor (2nd semester) and other WPS productions.  Pre-requisite (Middle school year long drama, acting for stage and screen, film/broadcast, design and technical theatre)
