Students will be expected to:

1. Textual analysis-How is meaning constructed within and through film texts?
•Key concepts: film language, genre, audience, institution, narrative, representation
•Comment on: narrative, characters & issues, camera angles, shots, editing, lighting, sound, location, genre, target audience, historical & sociocultural factors.
2. Film theory & history- How is film influenced by factors such as history and tradition, social and economic forces or by observations and research?
•Students expected to learn about films from more than one country to enhance understanding of familiar and less familiar.
•Some Q's to ask include: Who made this? What can we tell about the film-maker(s)? For whom was it made? What outside influences can we perceive? To what other works might it be connected?
3. Creative process-techniques & organization of production-
Students develop skills in film production working in a variety of roles.
•Creative Process: planning, pitch & approval, technical planning (genre, shot selection, schedule), physical production (pre, prod, post). •Production journal: key information throughout entire process.
